Developing Business and Technology Strategies - Business Transformation

Developed strategic business and I.T. plans for global and domestic organizations, including plans for regionalization of global requirements to support enterprise resource planning systems. As an I.T. leader, worked closely with key functional executives and C-level managements to ensure that I.T. strategies supported business strategies and goals.

Worked with CEO of premier archiving company to redevelop corporate business strategy and ensure alignment of technology strategy to meet business goals. Assessed organizational assets and redefined organizational structure to more adequately address corporate requirements and goals.

  • Implemented global technology strategy for deployment of enterprise financial systems with integration to custom trading system for large international bank.

  • Developed and implemented automation and key process improvements for mid-sized insurance company that enabled them to streamline the organization, realize approximately $500,000 in savings, and sustain business operations in the wake of liabilities resulting from a hurricane that incapacitated many other insurance companies underwriting policies in the south.

  • Implemented I.T. financial system strategy for healthcare company that supports 1,400 clients, 900,000 providers and processes over 110,000 million claims annually to put in place required systems and structure to adequately support financial operations, billing for over 2 million claims per month, I.T. quality frameworks, business continuity and disaster recovery plans.

  • Developed and implemented business strategy for new line of business for $5B global consulting company. As director with budget responsibilities for new $5M business practice, successfully hired, trained an managed staff of twenty management and I.T. consultants responsible for implementing financial and process improvement solutions to domestic clients and initiated negotiations for $1M outsourcing agreement.

  • Managed International Client Support team at an ERP software company with a product base that included multi-company, multi-currency financial applications, financial report development tools, document management, workflow automation and data archiving solutions. Team was responsible for supporting global client base that included Fortune 100 companies as well as mid-sized businesses.

  • Built consulting practice, developed implementation methodology and managed Document Management professional services consulting team to support new product line at premier ERP software and professional services company. Managing Change – People, Process (Redesign & Improvement) and Technology

  • Worked with senior executives to manage organizational, cultural and operational change specific to the implementation of a document management workflow automation system within an insurance company in NE United States. Management offered early retirement packages to prevent layoffs resulting from process efficiencies. Within a one-year period, successfully designed and implemented new workflow system and business processes and re-trained remaining administrative, technology, and underwriting staff to utilize new technology to effectively process all customer service, policy and claims transactions.

  • Led efforts to consolidate domestic port operations for international transportation company. Successfully implemented state-of-the-art document management workflow automation system that captured bill of lading information at each port and centralized processing. Increased process volumes and realized operational efficiencies estimated at over $1 M.

  • Conducted reengineering study of accounts payable and procurement processes that resulted in elimination of redundant tasks, decreased cycle time by 25%, increased efficiencies, reduced system down time and resulted in annual cost savings of approximately $500,000. Contributed to the successful integration of systems, infrastructure and teams in support of implementation of new core business applications and technologies.


Mergers & Acquisitions

Experienced with managing teams responsible for assessing I.T. environments and applications, developing asset inventories, mapping consolidated business requirements to application functionality, identifying gaps, and providing input on best-of-breed solutions that should be retained.

  • Program manager responsible for all integration efforts related to the accounting and finance portfolio for a premier US Healthcare company. Successfully integrated five acquired companies to parent organization and laid framework for ongoing integrations. Financial solutions supported billing clients for claims repriced through primary, affiliated, extender and wrap networks as well as tracking and assessing liabilities owed to 3rd party networks. Billing methods include Capitated (PEPM, PMPM), % Savings, Flat, Tiered, Minimum Allowable, Self-billing. Supported financial processing for Medicare, Medicaid, and Workers Comp/Auto initiatives.

  • Pivotal role as business transformation and project triage manager in outsourcing IT operations for HR, Payroll, benefits, Time & Labor functions for six unique lines of business across the US and Puerto Rico to ADP. Managed a team of eight I.T. consultants tasked with assessing and providing a comprehensive inventory of twenty-four IT systems and 500+ interfaces being consolidated to achieve corporate wide efficiencies of core business applications. Developed risk management, data warehouse, security and communication strategies and developed current-state and future-state functional requirements and technical specification documents.


Enterprise Resource Planning

Over twenty years experience managing the selection and implementation of COTS (commercial off-the-shelf) software packages as well as custom software development initiatives in client server and more recently, Web 2.0/SOA environments.

  • Managed the global deployment of multi-currency, multi-company financial systems for large banking institution, including the data and financial transaction integration between trading systems and General Ledger, and data migration from legacy applications. Ensured validation between legacy and current-state systems. Managed development of all financial reporting.

  • Managed transformation, application assessments, vendor selection, implementation and upgrade of ERP & CRM systems, centralized and decentralized IT operations. Facilitated Project Cleanup & Transformation Programs to centralize IT functions, replace legacy applications and infrastructures.

  • Managed selection of SFA (sales force automation) solution for approximately 500 internal sales and field sales users across 17 US locations. Established project office, defined project scope, assessed and defined functional & technical requirements, established vendor selection criteria, developed RFP, managed vendor selection process, assisted in negotiation of enterprise-wide software vendor licenses to cut costs, improve customer service and enhance field service operations.


Program & Project Management

Extensive experience in project management methodologies that include Agile, Waterfall, and hands-on management of the implementation of large enterprise implementations on a global scale.

  • Managed EURO conversion for nine business lines of international financial institution. Scope included identifying and managing hundreds of interfaces and system dependencies, setup of infrastructure and management of NYC command center for conversion weekend. Managed approximately 100 project managers responsible for system changes to accommodate new EURO currency, implemented program management frameworks and structure to support enterprise system conversion, ensured successful conversion and validation of all financial instruments and applications within 72 hr window.

  • Recognized for leadership ability in critical role to manage and triage processing of a core business application. Managed and prioritized enhancements to Clarify CRM: call center, help desk and sales force automation systems. Managed redevelopment of billing interface to PeopleSoft GL, successfully decreased processing time of billing interface by more than 500%, and established security procedures to ensure privacy of confidential data.

  • Championed SEI/CMM Quality PMO for large financial services institution responsible for implementing and maintaining quality processes & procedures to assist software development in quest to move from CMMI quality Level 2 to Level 3. Managed 35 consultants, 25 internal project managers; responsible for implementing quality processes & frameworks, developed templates to capture & report on enterprise wide metrics for software quality and process improvement in support of business transformation efforts. Directly responsible for implementing quality initiatives within the Equity and Derivatives group; oversaw project status meetings, assisted project managers in negotiating and managing scope changes, established new control templates and metrics to gauge project success as related to adherence to CMMI guidelines.

  • Managed the development of web services provider billing system and rewrite of proprietary billing and receivables system. Managed off-shore development and SQA teams. Managed development of financial reports. (Cold Fusion, JAVA, Web 2.0, Oracle, Business Objects, InfoView, Crystal Reports).

  • Implemented utilization management processes for healthcare billing; ensured accurate billing based on state mandated fee schedules, ensured adequate implementation of financial controls to support SSAE 16 audits. Managed initiatives to improve self-billing processes; worked with accounting and EDI teams to develop queries to improve self-bill claims match rates.

  • Implemented enterprise Fixed Assets system that successfully consolidated corporate assets for five acquired healthcare companies into one integrated solution. (Oracle FA, CS Thompson, Microsoft Dynamics Great Plains). Reduced manual asset entry, automated journal entry processes, realized approximately 30% process efficiency.


Business Continuity & Disaster Recovery

  • Developed plans and procedures to ensure real-time dual processing, disk mirroring to redundant sites, and backups for critical business systems.

  • Developed and implemented process and procedures, and upgraded technology infrastructure to establish development and test environments for core business system in large healthcare company. Established enhanced I.T. segregation of duties policies, procedures and controls to support change and configuration management of production environment. Ensured appropriate procedures in place to support business continuity and disaster recovery strategy and plans.

  • Conducted business continuity risk assessments to review and test documented procedures, identify and remediate gaps, and validate that processes were clear and staff capable of reacting appropriately in crisis situations.


Security & Compliance

  • Conducted SOX 404 & 302 readiness assessments across numerous business lines. Developed SOX design assessment templates to standardize data gathering efforts of IT controls. Managed design assessments, remediation efforts, testing and validation of CoBIT control objectives related to IT activities and tasks. Identified and recommended solutions to remediate non-compliant SOX controls based on CoBIT guidelines.

  • Drove development of Digital Information Lifecycle Management design and development to support new line of business for a leading provider of hosted content management and workflow automation solutions. Vendor provides risk-based information management solutions that help customers comply with a wide range of regulations that include HIPAA, Sarbanes-Oxley Section 404, FRCP #26 for e-Discovery, NASD 3110, SEC 17a-3 and 17a-4.

  • Developed framework for information lifecycle management: policy statements – the foundation of records management strategy, plans – rules for creating and capturing records and metadata, guidelines for transferring records, management structures, record inventorying, retention schedules, maintenance and disposition procedures and activities, and program – guidance on record status of working documents, mapping of business activities to various records lifecycles.

  • Performed business analysis and developed design spec for records retention system development in support of varied regulatory and legal compliance requirements. Established guidelines and templates for professional services consultants to utilize when assisting clients in defining records inventory, document types, roles for access, and classification schemas for arranging, storing, retrieving, and disposing of records.

  • Extensive experience assessing user roles and responsibilities and implementing user security on an as-needed-only basis to ensure segregation of duties, data privacy and application security. Familiar with compliance and audit guidelines and experienced in the implementation of role-based user security at the application, function, screen and data element levels.
